Another huge consignment of relief goods arrives from China

ISLAMABAD/BEIJING—Another huge consignment of relief goods arrived Monday evening from Beijing. A cargo plane of Air China, carrying 90 tonnes consignment relief goods including the most needed tents, blankets, quilts and mattresses etc landed at Islamabad Airport at 7-30 in the evening. The goods were straightaway handed over to the Pakistani authorities without any waste of time, who have already started dispatching it to different quack hit areas. This was the second huge consignment that has arrived from China within less than 24 hours while the first had arrived Sunday evening. It is learnt that at least 2 more cargo planes of Air China would be arriving in next 48 hours with more relief goods including power generators and medicines. This continuous pouring in of the huge relief goods consignments from China clearly indicates the depth of the ties between the two countries and also reflects the commitment of China to this friendship.
Our Special Correspondent at Beijing Max Lee adds: According to a Press Release, issued by the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing on Monday, the Chinese government, on Monday sent another 90 tonnes of consignment of relief goods comprising blankets, tents, mattresses and quilts for the earthquake victims in Pakistan.
Chinese vice minister for Commerce Mr. Wei Jianguo and Pakistan's Ambassador to China Mr. Salman Bashir were at the airport to dispatch the consignment. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Minister Wei Jiangou stated that Pakistan was China's time tested friend and in this hour of need the Chinese leadership, government and people would stand by the people of Pakistan. The Chinese government, he said would do its best to provide relief and help. Subsequent consignments would be dispatched in next 2 days.
A cash assistance of US $ one million out of the pledged US $6.2 million relief assistance has already been sent to Chinese Embassy in Islamabad for its transmission to the Pakistan government.
Pakistani Ambassador Salman Bashir highly appreciated the Chinese gesture of providing timely relief and assistance as well as sending of team of Relief and Rescue experts to Pakistan earlier.
Ambassador Salman Bashir said that Pakistani leadership, government and people of Pakistan were thankful top their Chinese friends for being amongst the first to offer and provide help.
