17 aftershocks recorded in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD—As much as seventeen jolts of various intensity and magnitude were recorded following the earthquake on Saturday here in federal capital.
According to Met Office and seismic reports, intensity of Saturday’s earthquake on Richter scale was 7.6 which was followed fourteen jolts of various magnitudes in Islamabad and its suburbs. Another series of jolts also recorded at 3 and 4 pm on Saturday.
According to TV reports forty dead bodies were retrieved from the debris of the Margalla Tower, whereas five persons were evacuated alive from the debris in F-10 sector building, which collapsed following the earthquake. While Assistant Commissioner of Islamabad Administration Captain Zafar Iqbal along with his family members, who were also trapped under the debris of Margalla Towers, called a friend and informed him about his situation on mobile phone. According to details, federal administration joined by hundreds of volunteers helped to evacuate five people alive from the debris wherein they were trapped after the collapse of tower. Furthermore, federal administration and other institutions have speeded up their endeavours to evacuate the injured from the debris wherein five heavy cranes are on work. According to officials, buildings adjacent with Margalla Tower also received damages and it is feared that these adjacent building might collapse too following the seconded episode of earthquake expected in next 48 hours.
