LG results reflect masses trust on PML: Mushahid

ISLAMABAD—People have reposed confidence in policies of Pakistan Muslim League government by voting for moderate, progressive and PML supported candidates in the Local Government Elections. This was stated by Secretary General PML Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed while addressing a press conference here at PML House.
Secretary Information PML and Minister of State for Tariq Azeem Khan, Minister of State for Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani, Senator Nisar Memon, Iqbal Dar, Imitaz Ali Ranjah and other PML leaders were also present on the occasion. Senator Mushahid said the trend in these Local Government elections was changed and people voted for the continuation of the policies of the government.
He said although PML had its government in two provinces, coalition in one province and MMA, the opposition is in government in NWFP, but the voters preferred PML supported candidates in these Local Government elections. He said observers from foreign countries, diplomats and human rights organizations observed the whole process of the elections which were held in a fair, free and impartial manner.
Expressing satisfaction over the peaceful completion of local bodies elections, Senator Mushahid said people have voted for their better future and to strengthen the democratic process in the country. He said the enthusiastic participation of people shows that they have complete trust and confidence in the system that it will help solve their problems at their doorsteps.
Senator Mushahid said the results of these LG elections showed that there had been change in the voting pattern and people opted in favour of PML supported candidates. He said the results indicated that people had elected moderate and progressive people who want to steer the country towards prosperity.
Mushahid said PML emerged single popular party in these elections and people have proved that it is the party which could ensure their progress and prosperity and a symbol of unity.
Referring to the reports of allegations of rigging, Mushahid said at a number of places, the PML supported candidates lost the elections of Nazims even in Gujrat and many other places.
Mushahid said it would be the policy of the PML that it would take along all party leaders to take forward the political process.
He said efforts would be made to strengthen the party at the grass roots level. He said enrolment drive of PML would be completed by December 31st and the list of members would be computerised as it would be the electoral roll for the intra-party election which would be completed by August 14th next year.
Mushahid said centenary celebrations of PML which would be started from December 25, this year would be continued during next year. He said its the credit of PML that its the second oldest political party of the sub-continent which was formed in 1906.
He said political process is the best way to counter the nefarious designs of extremists in the country.
Senator Mushahid said PML government proved its policies that it had honoured the people’s mandate and in the last three years there was not a single move to destabilise the opposition government in NWFP. He expressed the hope that now the opposition would also honour the mandate of the people accept the victory of PML in the LG elections.
Secretary Information PML Senator Tariq Azeem Khan said opposition has failed to get the public support as they had nothing new and only engaged in negative politics. He said the people had rejected the opposition in these LG Elections and added the results are the fruits of work done by the PML government. He said holding of LG elections on schedule after four years, is the credit of the PML government and added that PPP failed to hold even one election in its tenure. He said people have rejected the opposition as they had failed to provide any alternative system.
