General elections to be held not before 2007: Anisa

ISLAMABAD—Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli Friday said general elections would be held as per schedule in 2007. She expressed these views while talking to mediapersons after investiture ceremony of students' council of Islamabad Model College for Girls at F-6/2.
"There was no possibility of early elections and assemblies would continue to function", the minister added.
She said that local bodies elections were held in a free and fair environment in the presence of media adding the Local Government setup would strengthen democratic system in the country. Earlier, during her speech as chief guest on the occasion, the minister said the present government was giving much priority to upgrading and promoting education in the country.
She pointed out the achievement of 53 % literacy rate presently and target of 90 % till 2015 was quite reflective of the government's great determination and efforts for promoting the particular sector.
Advocating the trend of student of council to continue, the minister said it gave sense of responsibility to the students, which prepare them for future role as leaders of the country.
She urged the parents, present on the occasion, ton provide conducive environment of studies to their children.
She said Pakistan was a responsible nuclear state and its economy had strengthened under the leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf. However, she said there was no room for complacency and the country had still to go on a long way to progress.
