President directs to control price hike during Ramazan

RAWALPINDI—Taking note of the complaints about sudden rise in the prices of essential commodities with the onset of Ramazan, President General Pervez Musharraf has asked the federal and provincial governments to enforce a check on price hike so that common man may get these commodities at reasonable rates. “The common man should be able to purchase the essential food items at reasonable rates, therefore, it is important to ensure that rates fixed by the market committees are maintained during the holy month,” he said Thursday.
The President, who received a number of complaints vis a vis price surge, also appealed to the traders community to shun hoarding and profiteering in accordance with the holy month’s teachings and spirit of justice, unity and fairplay. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has asked the Provincial Chief Ministers of all four provinces to ensure the provision of all basic items at low rates during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a letter to Chief Ministers, Prime Minister has directed them to make arrangements to install “sastay bazaars” in all big cities of all provinces and to encounter hoarders with iron hands. According to PM House sources, Prime Minister issued these directives in response of letters, he received from people in which he has been requested to pay attention towards the price hike and over stock of basic items.
The Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has also directed them to visit bazaars and major markets to ensure the provision of every day items at affordable rates and remain in contact with the concerned departments. The outgoing, Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Shahid Karimullah, called on President General Pervez Musharraf here today. During the meeting, the President appreciated the services rendered by Admiral Shahid Karimullah for enhancing the professional capability of Pakistan Navy and defence of the country. He wished him success in his future endeavours. Admiral Shahid Karimullah thanked the President for the support extended to him during his term in the office.
