2355 new posts for nurses approved

ISLAMABAD—Minister State for Health Shehnaz Sheikh has said that government has approved 2355 new posts for the nurses to control the shortage of nursing staff in the government hospitals in the country.
"The nurses will be appointed on these posts within three years in the government hospitals of the country," minister said in the meeting held with the nurses here on Wednesday. Minister said that the country was facing two major problems in the nursing sector including low education quality and shortage of the nursing staff and this was affecting the education sector adversely." The decision of new appointments of nurses will help gear up the health sector," she added.
She asked the nurses to work with enthusiasm and devotion so that the result could be envisaged and added that government was allocating the separate budget for the nursing sector that would help to address the problems of nurses.
Minister said that secretary finance, chief secretary and chief minister would hold meetings in the provinces to look into the matters of the nurses and initiate the measures to address their problems.
"Government is committed to addressing these problems and taking all possible initiatives in this regard and a comprehensive strategy will be announced soon,"minister added. Minister maintained that government was working to finalize the strategy aimed at enhancing the efficiency and performance of health sector and as many as 6 meetings were held with the respective stakeholders including nurses last year to seek proposals in this regard.
Minister said that it had been agreed on some proposals regarding the comprehensive strategy and these proposals would be included in the strategy. Minister said that government was providing the financial assistance to the health sector that was posing impact on the nursing and econuraging and motivating them to speed up their work.
