Arrangements for Multan Test reviewed

MULTAN—A joint meeting of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and district administration Monday reviewed arrangements for Pakistan-England Test match to begin at Multan Cricket Stadium from Nov 6.
PCB representatives Zakir Khan and Munawwar Manj announced that Multan has been given the status of a permanent Test centre, said a press release issued here Monday.
The meeting was chaired by DCO Iftikhar Babar. PCB officials said that floodlights, improved seating arrangements and other technical facilities would be made available at the stadium well before the Indian team’s tour to Pakistan to take place in first quarter of 2006. Survey has already been conducted in this regard.
PCB said that ticket purchase procedure would be made easy for the cricket fans. DCO assured the PCB that district administration would make best possible arrangements for holding the international sports event.
He added that a comprehensive plan has been prepared to repair roads leading to the stadium, besides security to the visitors, traffic, cleanliness and transportation. He directed the departments concerned to perform their duties diligently with regard to the arrangements for the Test match.
PCB decided to set up two committees to be headed by the DCO to oversee arrangements for the coming match. District Sports Officer Laiq Pirzada, besides officials from TMA, police, Wapda, other departments and office bearers of Multan District Cricket Association (MDCA) attended the meeting.—Agencies
