Students urged to contribute to welfare of society

ABBOTTABAD—The 2nd convocation of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Abbottabad as held on October 01, 2005. Dr. Akram Sheikh, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission was the Chief Guest at this august occasion. Degrees were awarded to 202 students of Abbottabad Campus in the disciplines of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Master of Computer Science, and Master of Information Technology & Master of Business Administration. Medals were also awarded to 22 students for earning distinctions.
The Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by the Administration of CUT. Before his visit to the Convocation Venue, a monument of gratitude for President of Pakistan, unveiling ceremony took place in front of campus’ reception. Later on The Chief Guest visited the new Electrical Engineering Block and the opening ceremony of the new Engineering Block also took place. The Chief Guest visited the different departments of CIIT-Abbottabad and widely appreciated the efforts of the Rector-CIIT,Syed Mohammad Junaid Zaidi & The Director Abbottabad Campus, Mr. Haroon Rashid for their tireless efforts in making CIIT-Abbottabad one of the best academic institutes in Pakistan.
The Chief Guest visited the stalls organized by different departments at the Electrical Engineering Block and appreciated the effort of the Head/Incharge of the Departments for their priceless contributions pertaining to academic and extracurricular activities. Addressing the gathering at the convocation the Chief Guest asked the students to spare no time towards making Pakistan prosperous. He termed the students as the greatest assets of a country and successful nations are those which inculcate the true essence of knowledge in their students. He mentioned that after graduating the students now have heavy responsibility on their shoulders. He stressed that while enjoying the fruits of their degrees and playing .their roles as professionals, they must also contribute to the welfare of the society.
Addressing the gathering the Dr. Akram Shiekh termed IT education a virtual index of a country’s economic growth and development. He added that countries well endowed with the wealth of knowledge are able to lead from the front. He appreciated the vital role played by CUT in the fields of IT and Management
Dr. Akram urged upon the students to excel in every walk of life and make Pakistan prosperous and strong. He conferred degrees and medals on CIIT’s graduating students of Masters and Bachelors.
Rector CUT, Mr. Junaid Zaidi in his address briefed the audience about the short but quite eventful history of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology. He showed his great gratitude as the pioneer batches of MBA, BS(CS), BS(IT) & BS(CE) were sitting in robes and attending the Convocation-2005 along with their proud parents and faculty members. He appreciated the vision of Chairman HEC, Dr. Atta7ur-Rehman and said that without his without his continued encouragement, persuasion and guidance, the CIIT would have been in a two room place or died out like many other institutes. He said that CUT has a bright vision and it will be playing a leading role in imparting meaningful education. At the end he thanked all the faculty/staff members at CIIT-Abbottabad for their sincere effort in making this event a .big success. Dignitaries also attended the ceremony from various fields.
