Opposition united to launch anti-Govt drive: Qazi

NOWSHERA—Chief Muttahida Majlise Amal (MMA) Qazi Hussain Ahmed Saturday said that the opposition would launch a compressive and sustained countrywide protest campaign against President Musharraf after Ramazan.
Addressing a press conference here he said the movement would continue till Musharraf quits and army’s intervention in politics was permanently banished. “The general is no more acceptable as military chief or the president of the country,” he added. He said the question of presidential system in Pakistan had no relevance.
The existing system was neither presidential nor parliamentary because powers had been concentrated in the hands of one person only. It had resulted in prevalent of anarchy and lawlessness that had made the lives of people miserable, he added.
“An individual is ruling the country and imposed sort of civil martial law,” he said adding that all institutions have collapsed while foreign powers dictate the foreign policy of the country. He described Gen. Musharraf’s U-turn on policy towards Israel as betrayal of the Palestinian cause that had been done just to please the United States.
Qazi said the Constitution guaranteed autonomy of provinces but the federal government had been obstructing NWFP government in the implementation of the Hasba Bill that was passed by the provincial assembly by overwhelming majority.
The MMA president observed that rigging in the local government elections broke all the previous records. Now the sale and purchase of elected councillors was at its peak for the third phase of elections for district nazims, he added.
He also criticised Election Commission for not taking action against those involved in rigging.
Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) President Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that all political and democratic forces of the country are unanimous in their bid to oust President Pervez Musharraf and his team of power corridors.
In his exclusive chat with Online here Saturday, he said that President Musharraf has brought the country to the brink of disaster and the opposition would initiate decisive drive to oust President of power.
He maintained that Army was deliberately being brought in conflict with its own people, religious elements, on the directives of Israel and America, who want to weaken the army internally, and make it declare war against its own people.
He condemned the ongoing military operations in North Waziristan region saying deaths of local tribesmen would plunge the country into eternal turmoil. Meanwhile, Qazi Hussain Ahmad had a telephonic conversation with Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday, who is currently on a private visit to Dubai.
In the conversation, which lasted for at least an hour, both leaders discussed affairs of mutual interest, LB Polls, and the serious extent of Pakistan -Israel relationship and Pakistan’s heavy tilt towards America. Imran Khan has consented for his participation in the Steering Committee’s session, to be held on 10th Oct, in connection with “Oust Musharraf!” movement.
Qazi Sahib has also invited Imran Khan at “Ummat Councilor” convention to be held in the Aza Khel Park, to which the PTI chief has consented.
According to news, Imran Khan contacted PIA in Dubai for availability of a seat, but PIA has expressed its inability to provide him with one, hence his participation in the “Ummat Councilor moot has become doubtful could not oblige him.
However Qazi Sahib has informed Online that Imran Khan would try other to arrive in Pakistan via some other flight, in time for the moot at Azza Khel Park .—INP
