Govt to computerize land data to facilitate foreign investors: Chairman BoI

ISLAMABAD—Federal government has decided to computerize date of land available with provincial governments, army institutions, Pakistan Railway and other public institutions.
This was told by chairman, Investment Board, Waseem Haqqi in an interview here Saturday. He told that federal government has talked to the provincial governments on this matter.
He indicated that President General Pervez Musharraf, in a meeting recently held here has directed ministry of privatization and Investment to talk to all the interested parties on the matter of availability of land.
Another office bearer investment board has told government is likely to receive $27 billion foreign investment in the next five years owing to the steps taken by it to attract investment. The countries including China, Pakistan, India, Bangla Desh and East Asian countries remained conspicuous names for the foreign investors. On the other hand Pakistan could get only 0.2 percent foreign investment in 2004. It registered considerable increase in 2005. The foreign investment touched the level of 1.52 billion dollars in 2005. Our target for the current year is set over two billion dollars.
This office bearer told that government has decided to computerize land record available with provincial government, railway and other institutions to ensure facilities to investors.
He held that acquisition of land for foreign investors is a big challenge. Government can help foreign investors resolve the problems facing them in acquisition of land, he added.
It has been decided in a meeting held recently under the President General Pervez Musharraf that land data will be computerized in bulk sector as elementary step.
