Premier pledges to develop remote areas

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Tuesday said government is
focusing on improving the infrastructure in Southern Punjab and improve
its linkages with the rest of the country to accelerate development of
remote areas of the country.
He observed this while talking to Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari, MNA,
former president and a prominent leader of PML who called on him at the
National Assembly chamber. They also discussed the local bodies
elections and political situation in the country. Prime minister said
that the government is working on implementation of Khushal Pakistan
Programme for providing clean water, roads, gas and electricity beside
health and education. The government is committed to provide electricity
to all by 2007, he held. Meanwhile talking to Babar Khan Ghouri,
Minister for Ports Shipping Dr Farooq Sattar, MNA Adil Siddiqui and
Kanwar Naveed who called on him at his chambers, the prime minister
expressed satisfaction on the emooth and peaceful conduct of local
bodies election in Karachi and congratulated the Sindh administration
and law enforcing agencies for their performance. The prime minister
said that local bodies is the first step for strengthening democracy in
country. The huge turn out reflects the confidence reposed in the system
by the people and we now need to take it forward, he added. Honest and
selfless people mist be elected as Nazims to fulfill the expectations of
the people. The prime minister said that Pakistan Muslim League will
take its allied parties along with it so that the coalition government
can work together fo the development and prosperity of the country. The
Prime Minster said the voter turnout in the local bodies polls was an
endorsement of the success of the system and now it was vital that
honest and dedicated people work selflessly to solve the problems faced
by the people.
He referred to the Khushal Pakistan programme, which he said would
provide electricity, gas, roads and clean drinking water besides
improving the sanitation. On the social sector, he said, the government
has taken several initiatives like launching a Rs. 2.5 billion programme
for containing hepatitis and reinvigorating Basic Health Units to
provide primary, secondary and tertiary health care to the people. |
