Soomro to lead delegation for World Conference of Speakers of
Parliaments

ISLAMABAD—Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian soomro will represent Pakistan’s
Parliamentary delegation at the 2nd World Conference of Speakers of
Parliaments scheduled to be held from September 7 to 9, in New York.
The Conference is being organized by Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The overall purpose of the Conference is to present the United Nations
with a comprehensive view, and at the highest possible level, of the
contribution of the World’s Parliaments in strengthening the
multilateral system and in furthering peace, security, democracy, human
rights and development, pursuant to internationally agreed commitments.
The Conference is likely to provide a direct input into the high level
meeting of Heads of State scheduled to be held from September 14 to 19.
More than 150 Speakers of Parliaments are expected to attend the 2nd
World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments and will bring their vision
of multilateral cooperation to be hub of international politics.
The IPU President, Chilen Senator Sergio Paez and President of the
United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Jan Ping will open the summit which
will also be addressed by UN Secretary General, Mr. Kofi Annan.
