Pak on right track of economic development, says President

ISLAMABAD—President General Pervez Musharraf said Monday Pakistan is focused on socio-economic development of its people and pursuing a series of mega projects to translate recent economic gains into visible improvement in the lives of the people at the grass roots level. The President was speaking to President Asian Development Bank Haruhiko Kuroda who called on him. Having achieved higher economic growth, we are now in the process of realizing basic health care and electricity for all Pakistanis by year 2007,” he said.
Pakistan, he said, values the Asian Bank’s contribution to Pakistan’s development. The ADB Chief said the Bank views Pakistan’s continuity of policies and high economic growth with great appreciation.
He renewed the Bank’s commitment to Pakistan’s development in the years ahead.
Minister of State for Finance Omar Ayub Khan and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Division Hina Rabbani Khar were also present on the occasion.
President Asian Development Bank (ADB) Haruhiko Kuroda arrived here Monday on a two-day visit.
Minister of State for Finance, Omer Ayub Khan, Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Revenue Ms. Hina Rabbani and Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Khalid Saeed received the distinguished guest while a number of senior officials of EAD and ADB were also present on the occasion. The ADB President, during his visit, is scheduled to meet President General Pervez Musharraf and senior high ups of the Ministry of Finance. He will also undertake a visit of Khushhali Bank Training Center at National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF).
