ADB Mission, Salman discuss infrastructural development

ISLAMABAD—An ADB Mission comprising Ranier Hartel, Michael Haydon, Vivik Rao, Azizur Rehman and Azeem Hashmi held a meeting with Dr. Salman Shah Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance and Economic Affairs and Secretary Finance Naveed Ahsan here at the Ministry of Finance on Saturday.
The meeting discussed different options and modalities todevelop and finance infrastructure with private partnership combining ADB Sectoral Development Programme (SDP), Infrastructure Development Fund, developing local bond market and perusing the private sector banks having enough liquidity to invest in viable projects of infrastructure and utilities in mega and small cities of Pakistan.
Welcoming the ADB Mission, Dr. Salman Shah said that there is no dearth of viable and bankable projects in various sectors including transport, ports, airports, health, drinking water and sanitation in various cities of Pakistan.
The financial strength and management capacity of provincial and local level needs to be developed to enable their fund raising capacity.
He welcomed the ADB proposal to set up Public-Private Infrastructure Development facility that would develop PPID strategy and policy framework including mechanism to build the linkage and capacity of organizations at provincial and local level.
