President, PM grieved over Katrina havoc
Staff Report

ISLAMABAD—President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have expressed their shock and grief with US President George W Bush over the loss of precious lives and property due to Hurricane Katrina that caused havoc in the Gulf Coast region of United States. In his message here on Thursday, president Musharraf said we the government and people of Pakistan are deeply shocked and are with the people of US over the massive losses inflicted by Katrina.
In his separate message, the prime minister said a vast area has been devastated by the hurricane and all our sympathies are with the people of US who lost their loved ones due to hurricane and we are with them in this testing hour.
Hurricane Katrina’s fury has reignited the scientific debate over whether global warming might be making hurricanes more ferocious. At least one prominent study suggests that hurricanes have become significantly stronger in the past few decades during the same period that global average temperatures have increased. Katrina blew up in the Gulf of Mexico to a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 175 mph before slackening a bit Monday when it hit, swamping New Orleans and the Mississippi coast.
