MINGORA—Yet another polio case is confirmed in Swat, taking the number of lids affected by polio type 1 to 19 only in this militancy hit district.
One year old Inayatullah resident of tehsil Matta in Swat was confirmed affected with poliovirus type 1, taking the reported polio cases during the year to 69, 38 of them from NWFP only.
With the latest confirmed case, the health department sources said, the total cases of polio reported and confirmed in Swat have rose to 19.
Acceding to National Institute of Health (NIH) the most recent cases of polio are rooted in village Jull Jabba in Swat, village Hazara in Tehsil Matta, and district Killa Abdullah in Balochistan.
Sources further said most cases in NWFP were reported in Swat district, where Taliban had banned anti-polio vaccination over the past years, when they were in control of the region.
