ANF submits report in Ephedrine case with SC

By Uzma Zafar

ISLAMABAD – The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Tuesday submitted a progress report pertaining to the ephedrine scam case in the Supreme Court.

According to the report, investigations proved that the accused in the case had misused the ephedrine quota.

The ANF claimed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Hanif Abbasi was "playing politics on the issue instead of cooperating" with investigators.

Rather than becoming part of the investigation, Abbasi opted to get bail from Karachi, the report said, adding that, the MNA was maligning the ANF.

The progress report made no mention of Federal Textile Minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin or MNA Ali Musa Gilani, the son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The report also stated that another accused in the case, Rawalpindi's Zahid Bakhtawari was involved in the misuse of the ephedrine quota.

The report added that Bakhtwari was absconding instead of becoming part of the investigation, which, according to the report, proved that he was involved in the misuse of the quota.
