LAHORE – At least 23 labourers were killed and several others wounded when fire swept through a plastic factory here on Tuesday, medics said.
The factory is located on Band Road in Gulshan-e-Ravi area of Lahore.
According to sources, 26 people were brought to Mayo Hospital. Out of them, 23 people were pronounced dead while six others were critically wounded.
According to reports, 35 to 40 people were present inside the factory when the fire broke out.
After the incident, rescue teams reached on the spot and firefighters managed to put out the blaze. The investigations into the incident have been started.
Meanwhile, At least 11 people were killed and 14 others injured when a fire broke out at a garment factory on Hub River Road in Karachi, on Tuesday.
Three women who were in the factory when it caught fire, were injured when they tried to escape the building by jumping off the roof.
According to SSP West, around 100 people are still trapped inside the building as fire fighters try to put out the fire.
Fire officials have already declared the blaze to be of category three, the highest and most dangerous level of fire.
Chief Fire Officer Ehtishamuddin Siddiqui told The Express Tribune that some firefighters had managed to get inside the building and were trying to locate and rescue people trapped inside.
Meanwhile, firefighters said at least 25 people have been rescued so far while the injured have been shifted to the civil hospital for further treatment.
Sindh health minister has declared emergency in the civil hospital.
The cause of the fire still remains unknown.
