Govt owns what the ISI do, says PM

— Says speculation on Govt's future needless

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) enjoyed full support of the government for its operations and we are with it, Geo News reported Wednesday.

The PM was addressing a public gathering in Bhara Kahu where he inaugurated a 25-bed upgraded Integrated Health Center to provide best possible medical facilities to the rural population.

Gilani pointed out that the intelligence agencies of the country were working under the government, adding relations with US would be on equal terms and in our interest. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has declared that the PPP Government came into power with the backing of the people and only the masses have the right to remove it. Those who want to come through undemocratic means should wait for the next elections and the forecasts that the Government would go soon have proved wrong.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of a model rural health centre at Bhara Khau near Islamabad Wednesday, the Prime Minister said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto were symbol of the federation who always worked for its strengthening. He said that these leaders made matchless struggle for the rights of people, strengthening of state institutions besides giving a consensus constitution. He said that present PPP government restored that constitution.

The Prime Minister declared that without the approval of the government, intelligence agencies cannot indulge in any activity. They are under the government and if the ISI does any work, it has the backing of the government. He said Raymond Davis case was decided by the Court and every one should respect that instead of giving lessons to the Government to respect the verdict of the judiciary.

The Prime Minister said that some people are claiming that they would eliminate terrorism within three months if they were made Prime Minister. He advised such people to wait for the elections and wait for the verdict of the people.

The Prime Minister said that the present government believes in respecting all state institutions including judiciary and will continue to work for their strengthening.

He lauded the sacrifices rendered by the Pakistan Army, Frontier Constabulary and Police in the war against terror and said the Government and people stand by the armed forces in the war against the terrorist and all possible resources to eliminate them. He said all the state machinery including the intelligence agencies are working on government orders in the interest of the country.   Rejecting the propaganda against country's institutions and nuclear programme, the Prime Minister gave full assurance that our institutions are strong and nuclear programme is in safe hands.   

The Prime Minister referring Pak-US relations said Pakistan intends to have good and friendly relations with the United States on the basis of mutual respect. He made it clear that the government will never compromise on the self respect, defence, sovereignty and integrity of the country. 

Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said that the government has adopted people friendly policies to resolve the problems being faced by the people and expressed the confidence that PPP will again emerge as the majority party in the next election. He assured the nation that the next election will be held in a fair, free and transparent manner. He said PPP government came into power through peoples' vote and will complete its five year tenure and advised those who are making hue and cry to wait till the next election.

He directed Interior Minister to ensure the registration of youth having eighteen years of age so that they could cast their vote in the next election.

Referring to the development programme of his government, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said that he ensured the equal development in each constituency of the country and without discrimination.

The Prime Minister announced provision of gas to the surrounding areas of Bhara Kahu, construction of bridge in Sambli Dam area, DHQ hospital Girls Degree College, Dsitrict Office Pakistan Baitul Mal, Sweet Home for orphan children, cheap weekly bazar for the Islamabad capital territory. He also announced ten million rupees for the health centre Bhara Kahu.

Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that the PPP has always rendered sacrifices for the country and will continue efforts to solve the problems of the people. He said the policies of the present government are aimed at bring peace in the society which is vital for sustainable development.
