Power outages worry Lahorites

Staff Report

LAHORE – The Lahore Electric Supply Company is carrying out eight to 10 hours load shedding in the urban areas of the provincial capital, crippling the routine life of citizens badly.

The long duration of outages are being observed somewhere in the name of repair and maintenance, where somewhere the LESCO’ officials at grid stations, seeking anonymity, are complaining that they are ordered from the main grids to cut electricity after every hour or after two hours.

Around 30 percent of Lahore remained without electricity in one click, an official source at LESCO confirmed. Despite the normal routine, the repair work is continuing in working days, which otherwise is being done during the holidays especially on Sundays.

The LESCO’s sources claimed that repair was just an excuse, as in reality there was a huge shortfall between the demand and supply. They said that electricity in Old Kot Lakhpat Grid Station, Chungi Amar Sadhu, Ferozepur Road, RA Bazaar, Kamahan Road and Johar Town Grid Station went off during 9m to 10am, during 11am to 12pm, during 3pm to 5pm, during 8pm to 9pm, during 12pm to 1am and during 3am to 4am on daily basis especially for the last four days.

Similarly, the areas under the New Kot Lakhpat and Khudian grid stations, the General Hospital, Nishtar Colony, New Ferozepur Road, Soofiabad faced outages in alternate hours. The LESCO is conducting outages in other areas on rotational basis.

The abrupt power tripping coupled with load shedding, reached even more than 10 hours in the some areas, especially where the LESCO’s transmission system is old and overloaded.
