Mumbai - It is pity that Pieter Seelaar's girl-friend, Ashley could not watch the best performance of her boy-friend on Wednesday.
"She was in India when the Netherlands team played a World Cup match against West Indies (on February 28 in New Delhi) but she had to return early for her job", the 24-year-old Pieter Seelaar's mother Anne said from their home minutes after the match yesterday. "She would have been happier to see Pieter's performance in this match", she further added. Sadly, the left-arm spinner's parents (father-Seg) could not make it to India."I underwent hernia surgery (the lady was aware about England's Kevin Pieterson's similar illness) recently and despite being very keen, we could not make it", she said.
"We all watched the match at home here. It was an exciting match and our son was bowling superbly well right from the beginning. We were excited when he grabbed the first three wickets including the prize wicket of Sachin Tendulkar". "Had we scored few more runs, perhaps India could have been in more trouble".She, however, further added, "at no stage we were hoping to win this match against a big team like India but we take pride in what we played. Our team bowled well and fielded well".
"Pieter is a student of sports marketing and been in the game from a very young age. "Playing soccer as a very youngster within the club Hermes DVS, Pieter with his brother Harro (now doctor) picked up cricket also at Hermes DVS", informs his club secretary, Dirk Klokgieters.
"Supported by his parents, Pieter was getting serious playing cricket when he was picked for the national team of Holland under 12 years.
