Exports surge by 24.64 pc in eight months

ISLAMABAD - Despite the challenges, the country’s exports during first eight months of current financial year surged by 24.64 per cent. The exports from the country during the period from July to February 2010-11 stood at US $ 15.33 billion as against the US$ 12.30 billion of the same period of last fiscal year.

Meanwhile, the imports in the country was also increased by 17.32 per cent which was recorded at US$ 25.59 billion during the period under review as against US$ 21.820 billion of same period of last corresponding year, said the data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistic (FBS) here Thursday.

However the trade deficit was recorded at US$ 10.26 billion during July to February 2010-11 as against US$ 9.51 billion of July to February 2009-10, showing an increase of 7.8 percent in balance of trade.

During the month of February 2011 the imports in the country showed an negative trend as compare to the last month of current financial year as the imports in the country was decreased by 11.35 per cent where as the imports in the country was registered at US$ 3.05 billion as against the US$ 3.44 billion of last month.

Same time, during the month under review the exports decreased by 7.34 percent decreasing from US$ 2.32 billion of January 2011 to US$ 2.15 billion in February this year.

The data said that exports from the country grow by 42.07 percent during the month under review as compared to the same month of last year as the exports was recorded at US$ 2.15 billion in the month of February 2011 as against the US$ 1.5 billion exports of February 2010.
