Sajjad ousts Imran in National Snooker

KARACHI– Former Asian number two Muhammad Sajjadproduced best form to hammer top seed Imran Shehzad 5-1 to sail intothe quarterfinal rounds of Jubilee Insurance 37th edition ofNational Snooker Championship at Karachi Gymkhana Billiards Hall onMonday.

Former National Champion Sajjad from Sargodha, carvedout the breaks of 68 in the third and 67th in the next to complete aroute of veteran cueist Imran. Sajjad took the opening frame and Imran Shehzad grabbedthe next. But Sajjad potting in silky fashion took the next frames attrot to out-pot his opponent.

Former Pakistan number one Muhammad Asif fromFaisalabad showed brilliant break-building to thrash Shah Khan ofKhyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) 5-2. Lanky made the break of 68 in the first53 in the second and superb break of 108 in the final frame register adazzling win. In Tuesday's quarterfinal Sohail Shehzad will playMuhammad Asif, Sajjad clash Sharjeel Mehmood, Sultan Mohammad taken onAbdul Sattar and Naveen Perwani meets Vishan Gir at 11.00 a.m.

Earlier in the morning session, Veteran internationalNaveen, who had represented Pakistan in World and Asian championships,made a whirlwind start with tournaments' highest break of 117 tothrash former Pakistan number one. Naveen was in a position to make a clearance break of130. But he missed the pink ball.
